Gina Bowers
Since 1993, I have been a tenured Professor of CIS and Web Development at Harrisburg Area Community College. My role also included being a tenured Counselor, working mainly with students in the Computer Technology and Business career areas. I've taught a variety of CIS and WEB courses at HACC as well as a Management and Human Relations class. I also developed a course, Using Mobile Applications, when mobile apps first arrived on the scene and were becoming more useful for individuals as well as businesses. I enjoy learning new technology and utilizing apps in my classes to help engage students in the learning process.
I have been the lead faculty member for our CIS 110 concepts course as well as WEB 102 – Web Exploration and Design, and as one of the first advocates for online classes at HACC, have been teaching online since 1998. In 2013, I moved to the Virtual Campus/learning area of the college and have been working completely online since then. I've long been an advocate for online student services and college processes to help students, faculty and staff, and have shared my love of technology by presenting at Cengage conferences, Symposiums at HACC, as well as for the League of Innovation.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Minor in Psychology from Mansfield University in Mansfield, PA and completed my master’s degree in Counseling - Student Development at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro, NC. There I was exposed to the wonders of the community college system, both for students and employees. I found working in an educational environment energizing and Student Affairs was the perfect combination of my Business and Counseling degrees. Having always wanted to teach, I offered my first course in Human Relations in Business while at Lenoir Community College in Kinston, NC. My love of learning continued, and I earned a master’s degree in Educational Technology Leadership at George Washington University, DC and completed a Graduate Certificate in Computer information Systems at Penn State University.
I am also teaching for York Technical Institute in York, PA and earned my Certified Higher Education Professional (CHEP) Certificate in Online Teaching there.
When not in the classroom, I am biking Rail Trails near and far, riding “Scoobie”, my red 2010 Vespa GTS 300, playing pickleball, kayaking, golfing, or volunteering with my 2 Therapy Dogs, Mango and Doodle. I enjoy traveling and can’t wait to get back on the go once the Pandemic is under control.
