Michele Martinez
I'm an Accounting Professor at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. I've been teaching accounting for over 12 years and my experience thus far includes Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Micro-Computers in Accounting. I've always had a passion for training and learning and my love of teaching started at a very early age. At 16 years old, I taught dance, gymnastics, and cheer leading. I teach in a variety of learning environments, including full distance learning, hybrid, traditional on-campus (face-to-face), flipped classrooms, and web-enhanced. HCC includes seven different campuses and has an extremely diverse student population (with the majority being non-traditional students). Therefore, I try to incorporate activities, in all my teaching environments, that hit on every type of learning style. I continually strive to engage my students with active learning activities and put them in charge of their education. I feel it's extremely important for students to understand "why" the subject matter I'm teaching them is important and "how" it may be applied to the "real world". The more a student applies the subject matter to their life the more passionate they become about the subject. Additionally, I stress the importance of 24/7 learning. Learning doesn't just take place in the classroom twice a week or in front of the computer once a week (when they login). It's imperative that I provide students the opportunity to continuously practice and have access to accounting materials when needed; no matter what time of day; in order to be successful in any accounting course. To keep my student's attention, I wanted to offer a variety of activities and practice to engage them 24/7 in accounting. Thus, CengageNOW and MindTap become the perfect addition to all my courses.
