Scott Crawford
I'm an Instructional Professor at Texas A&M University in the Department of Statistics. I have taught introductory courses, methods courses, and graduate level courses. I was also director of the Statistical Consulting Center for several years. I like to use Webassign because it is simple for the student to find the course material, I can create randomized homework questions, and students get immediate feedback. I use a computer applet instead of z and t tables, and assign partial credit for exams.
I have a masters from BYU and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. I've developed a number of online courses completely hosted in Webassign. I have hundreds of students per semester. I don't require a textbook, instead I use videos, notes, and computerized homework. I enjoy the programming in PERL to make questions match exactly the notation I want to use. I make use of the discussion board ,and my TA's spend their time tutoring instead of grading. I believe it is possible to make an online course as good as any in class setting.
